Who we are
Our Story Begins at the Top
At Skyline Detailed Roofing, our expertise doesn’t come from a handbook, a franchise model, or a quick certification — it begins with our owners. We are proudly a father-and-son company, led by Elmer and Cris, and built on a lifetime of doing roofing the right way. This business was never created to be just another roofing company. It was created to represent a standard — a way of working that values people, craftsmanship, and responsibility over speed and shortcuts.
This isn’t simply a job to us; it is a calling and a responsibility that we take personally. Roofing is more than materials and labor — it is protecting families, preserving homes, and safeguarding what people have worked their entire lives to build. Every roof we touch carries that understanding. Every project represents trust, and we honor that trust by treating each home as if it were our own.
Our company is built on legacy, not trends. It is built on relationships, not transactions. And it is built on the belief that doing things the right way, even when no one is watching, is the only way to build something that truly lasts.
Elmer — Founder, Craftsman, and the Standard We Live By
Elmer is the founder of Skyline Detailed Roofing, our master craftsman, and the foundation of everything we stand for as a company. His name, reputation, and integrity are woven into every roof we install. He personally inspects every home we work on — not as a formality, but as a responsibility he takes seriously.
For Elmer, experience is not something written on paper — it is something earned through decades of hands-on work, problem-solving, and learning from real-world conditions. He believes that every roof tells a story, and if you know how to read that story, you can understand not just what is wrong, but why it happened and how to fix it properly.
Shortcuts have never been part of how Elmer operates. If something doesn’t meet his standards, it doesn’t move forward — no exceptions, no compromises. That mindset shapes every crew member, every process, and every decision we make. His standards are not negotiable, and they are the reason our work has earned trust across generations of homeowners.
Learning Roofing the Old-World Way
Elmer’s roofing education began long before Skyline Detailed Roofing existed — long before job titles, certifications, or company names mattered. As a child, he worked alongside his own father, who hand-made roofing tiles and installed roofs using traditional methods that required patience, skill, and discipline.
From a very young age, Elmer learned how materials are meant to function together, how roofs are built layer by layer from the ground up, and how small details create long-term performance. He learned that a roof is not a single product, but a complete system — where every layer, transition, and connection matters.
He didn’t just learn what to install — he learned why it works when done correctly and why it fails when corners are cut. He learned to respect materials, understand structure, and value precision. That old-world foundation created a craftsman’s mindset that still guides how we approach every roof today.
Precision Learned on New York City Skyscrapers
As a young man, Elmer moved to New York City, where he worked in industrial waterproofing on skyscrapers. This chapter of his career shaped him in ways few residential roofers ever experience and elevated his understanding of water intrusion to a different level.
On high-rise buildings, water intrusion isn’t cosmetic — it’s catastrophic. One overlooked seam, one poorly sealed penetration, or one failed transition can cause massive structural damage. Lives, businesses, and millions of dollars in property depend on waterproofing being done correctly.
That environment demanded absolute precision in flashing systems, sealants, waterproofing transitions, and structural detailing. There was no guessing, no improvising, and no tolerance for error. This is where Elmer’s ability to diagnose leaks truly sets him apart. He doesn’t rely on assumptions — he understands how water moves, where it travels, how it hides, and how to stop it at the source rather than just treating the visible damage.
This knowledge is still applied to every residential roof we inspect today.
Building to Florida’s Toughest Standards
In 2003, Elmer settled in Palm Coast, Florida, and made a decision that would define our company’s future: if roofing work wasn’t going to be done correctly and ethically, he would do it himself.
Before founding Skyline Detailed Roofing, Elmer worked at a large waterproofing company in Miami, specializing in tile roofing under some of the strictest building codes in the country. Miami’s hurricane requirements demand proper fastening systems, correct coatings, reinforced underlayments, and exact installation techniques. These standards exist to protect homes against extreme weather, wind uplift, and long-term water intrusion.
There is no room for shortcuts in that environment. Those years refined the methods we still use today, especially on tile roofs. The standards we follow were not created for marketing purposes — they were forged under real-world conditions where failure simply wasn’t an option and mistakes carried real consequences.
Why Skyline Detailed Roofing Was Founded
After years of seeing contractors cut corners, downgrade materials, and compromise integrity, Elmer founded Skyline Detailed Roofing with a clear purpose: to do the work correctly, honestly, and with pride — every single time.
He believed homeowners deserved transparency, quality, and accountability. He believed people deserved contractors who stood behind their work and took responsibility for the results. And he believed that a company’s reputation should be built on performance, not promises.
At the same time, he began training his son, Cris, passing down decades of hands-on knowledge — not just how to build roofs, but how to treat customers with respect, how to communicate honestly, and how to run a company with accountability and integrity.
This wasn’t about growing fast or becoming the biggest company in the area. It was about building something meaningful, something trustworthy, and something that would last for generations.
Built on Word of Mouth, Not Advertising
For the last 30 years, our company has grown almost entirely through word of mouth. We didn’t rely on flashy marketing, social media campaigns, or aggressive advertising strategies. Our reputation traveled through neighborhoods, families, referrals, and long-standing relationships.
Homeowners shared our name because they trusted our work. Communities remembered us because of how we treated people. Our growth came from consistency, reliability, and quality — not from promotion.
Tile roofing is our specialty, but we hold the same high standards for metal roofing and shingle systems. We are well-versed in all roofing types because understanding roofing means understanding the entire system — ventilation, drainage, waterproofing, structure, and material compatibility. We don’t specialize in shortcuts; we specialize in complete, properly built roofing systems.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
Today, Elmer still inspects every home we work on. His eye for detail hasn’t changed, and neither have his standards. He continues to mentor our crews, guide our processes, and protect the integrity of our work.
Cris represents the next generation, ensuring that the same principles, techniques, and values continue forward. He brings modern organization and communication while preserving the craftsmanship and discipline that built the company.
Together, they ensure that Skyline Detailed Roofing remains rooted in experience, guided by integrity, and committed to excellence. As a team, we do things differently because experience has taught us that doing it right the first time is the only approach that truly lasts.
Stepping Forward — With the Same Values
After decades of quietly serving Palm Coast, we’re finally stepping onto social media — not because we need the attention, but because we’re ready to connect more directly with the community that has trusted us for years.
We want homeowners to see who we are, how we work, and what we stand for. We want transparency, education, and connection to be part of the experience of working with us.
We are proud of where we come from. We are proud of the work we do. And we are deeply grateful for every homeowner who allows us to protect what matters most to them.
This is who we are.
This is why our work lasts.
